For those of you who are naive enough to believe that Vernon is an innocent man, this is an excerpt from the decision of one of his appeals to the 4th circuit court of appeals.

"During the state trial, the prosecution offered overwhelming incriminating evidence against Evans through a number of witnesses. The most damaging testimony came from Charlene Sparrow, who was Evans' girlfriend at the time of the murders. Sparrow testified that she accompanied Evans and Janet Moore to the Baltimore City Jail two days before the shooting. At the jail, Evans and Moore met with Grandison, who was awaiting his federal drug trial. Sparrow then inspected the reception desk area of the Warren House Motel. She reported to Evans concerning the people working there and the presence or absence of security features. Sparrow also obtained a room at the motel with Evans' funds at his request. On the day of the murders, Evans told Sparrow to wait for him in the car behind the motel. Just before Evans walked to the motel, Sparrow looked inside the brown canvas bag he was carrying and saw a machine gun. Some ten to fifteen minutes later, Evans returned to the car, gave the smoking MAC11 machine pistol to Sparrow, and asked her to wipe it down. Evans had also told her that he would receive $9,000 "if he knocked both of them off." Evans and Sparrow went to the mall that night to spend part of the proceeds from the murders."

$9,000, that's what those two lives were worth to you Vernon. I hope you're proud of yourself.

I am an atheist, but reading this site makes me hope that I am wrong and that hell really does exist, because that's where you and Anthony Grandison deserve to suffer for all eternity for what you did to David and Susan. The day they strap you to that table in the death chamber and pump poison into your veins I'm going to throw a party. The death of a murderer is a cause for celebration.

I find "death penalty" is no route to go at all Vernon. Death does not rehab anyone - not the person whos done the crime, not the people effected by it. It merely soothes the burning sensation of a wrecked society which is too lazy to work on the problems it has. It puts a bandaid on the sore, but doesnt heal it. Our officials in the White House committ crimes all around the world, never once have they seen the inside of a prison cell. The world needs to understand that abolishment of the death penalty is the first route to "people taking a grip on responsibility". Vernon - if you ever get a chance surf onto www.jenseits-de.com as many will understand why the world is the way it is. To all the inmates, familymembers, loved ones of a death row inmate my hearts and prayers go out to you in sincere love.

16 Nobel Prize Laureates Appeal to the Italian Government with a urgent and immediate goal: ensuring the resolution for the universal moratorium is presented to the current General Assembly, despite new international events that might in fact jeopardise it.

At midnight on April 16, Marco Pannella's non-violent initiative (that started on March 21) turned into an indefinite hunger strike. Sergio D'Elia, Valter Vecellio, Guido Biancardi, Lucio Bertè and Claudia Sterzi are also joining the fight in such an important phase. Our goal is to prevent the universal moratorium on the death penalty from being postponed to next year, as has happened for the past 13 years.
This fight is absolutely necessary and very urgent, as the moratorium is on the verge of being jeopardised, even abandoned. The moratorium is an objective very dear to the Radicals, especially Hands Off Cain and the Transnational Radical Party. The moratorium was initially embraced by the Italian Parliament. Later, a solemn commitment was made by the Italian Government on January 2, 2007, which was then supported by the European Parliament as well, and with an extraordinary majority.
Parliaments, Governments and a strong popular opinion were all moved into action by the "scandalous" execution of Saddam Hussein. The urgent and immediate goal: ensuring the resolution for the universal moratorium is presented to the current General Assembly, despite new international events that might in fact jeopardise it.
This is what is being discussed on a daily basis. Errors and delays have certainly taken place but it is still possible that they can be overcome and the moratorium will finally be achieved.
The alternative to our non-violent initiative is to accept yet another indefinite postponement, or a betrayal such as the one we received in 1999. We were recently reminded of this episode by Francesco Paolo Fulci, the influential Italian Ambassador to the UN at the time. The UN was given the order "from Brussels" to withdraw the resolution for the moratorium, a resolution that had already been submitted and had the certainty of being approved.

As people who believe in non-violent means, we have specific responsibilities and we will help our Government to reach the goal set by the Parliament, and later embraced by the Government itself. We are incited to act by the hope and the certainty that non-violence is the most effective tool to support the Government to fulfil the commitments it has made.

I sent a letter in several months ago and yet no answer. Although I am of the belief that this comment will not post I am writing it anyway. It seems as though this site doesn't show both sides of the death penalty issue. it tends to publish the letters of people who support Vernon and his views and ignore those who don't. Although it is their right, you can't get a definitive answer or make an opinion without knowing both sides. I don't know if Vernon did this crime or not, as I wasn't there nor do I know the facts of the case, but doesn't everyone on death row say they didn't do it for the most part?

All I am trying to say is publish letters from both viewpoints and then let the blog readers choose which way to go.
